It Happened to Me

Happy Leap Day!

Comic panel featuring skeleton having cereal and coffee saying “What a year, huh?” and a cat replying “It’s February.”

It’s the last day of February — and a bonus day at that — so it’s the last day this image can be considered “current.”

It’s been an interesting year, where I’ve enjoyed some sights, seen family I don’t often see, and earlier this month, I got laid off. That’s a lot, considering we’re only one-sixth of the way through the Gregorian calendar, and one-twelfth of the way through the Year of the Dragon!

The next few months promise to be even more interesting, and I’m looking forward to taking them on.

Accordion, Instrument of the Gods It Happened to Me

I was helping out at the “Speed Networking Lounge” at the Synapse Summit conference earlier today, where they divided the room into areas where people could go to discuss different topics, which were marked by balloons. I was in the “Artificial Intelligence” area, and after the speed networking session ended, they let me take the balloon, which I tied to my accordion.

The balloon’s been attached to the accordion all day, and the accordion’s been with me wherever I’ve gone all day, including the Rollin’ Mullet pub in my neighborhood. That’s when I noticed I had an opportunity to take an “art” photo — hence the image above.

Feel free to assign whatever meaning or symbolism works for you to the photo.

Useful information for tomorrow’s flight

Screenshot of a CNN story where the “lower third” says “Boeing 777 will struggle to maintain altitude once the fuel tanks are empty.”

Hey, CNN, thanks for telling us that “plane no go if no gas.”

The day after Valentine’s Day…

There’s still time!

Photo from the WEIRD TORONTO Facebook group.

Happy Valentine’s Day, gentlemen. This is a reminder that it’s not too late!

As a longtime former resident of Toronto and former Microsoft developer evangelist, I often made use of Microsoft’s downtown office in the EY Tower. Hence I can say with great confidence that I recognize the place where this photo was taken without having to analyze its EXIF data (which was removed as part of the Facebook upload process anyway).

The “Earn More Points” sign clearly marks the photo as having been taken at a Shoppers Drug Mart. The near-identical blue suits are a good sign that it’s a Shoppers Drug Mart on or near Bay and King Streets, the financial heart of the city. And finally, I’ve been in this particular drug store more than a couple of times; it’s the one in Brookfield Place (formerly BCE Place).
