Political Map of Middle Earth

My housemate Paul sent me a link to this political map of Middle Earth:

You can’t see her at this scale, but Michelle Malkin is located right below the Eye of Sauron.

Click on the map to see the full-size version.

If you want to a “real” map of Middle Earth, check out this site.

Now all we have to do is wait for the Republicans to put together a “Heimlich Maneuver Dudes For Truth” ad

[ via Eschaton ] The Las Vegas Sun has this story about John Kerry:

Former U.S. Sen. Chic Hecht of Nevada is a staunch
Republican, but he thanks his lucky stars for Democratic presidential
hopeful Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

On July 12, 1988, Hecht was attending a weekly Republican luncheon when a piece of apple lodged firmly in his throat.

Hecht stumbled out of the room, thinking he might
vomit but not wanting to do it in front of his colleagues. Sen. Kit
Bond, R-Mo., thumped his back, but Hecht quickly passed out in the
hallway.

Just then, Kerry stepped off an elevator, rushed to Hecht’s side and gave him the Heimlich maneuver — four times.

A Question Mixing Pop Music and History [Updated]

If I were to start a very image-conscious commercial-sounding boy band named Gavrilo Princip, would anybody get the joke?

Update: Here a hint — there’s an alt-rock band that the critics seem to like called Franz Ferdinand.

Nintendosoft!

FARK has a
hilarious thread in which they ask readers to Photoshop what Nintendo
games would’ve been like had they been owned by Microsoft
.

Some of my favourites:

Oh, how we used to play this game for hours back at Crazy Go Nuts University!

Zelda meets Clippy!

This
one made me laugh out loud. The suggestions in the dialog box are
actual fixes for a Nintendo cartridge that refuses to work.

Jim Munroe Display at Pages Bookstore

You may have read in BoingBoing that Accordion City’s very own Jim Munroe, author of the cool off-beat sci-fi novels Flyboy Action Hero Comes With Gasmask, Angry Young Spaceman and Everyone in Silico (I have yet to read that one), has a new book titled An Opening Act of Unspeakable Evil and is serializing it on his blog.

Pages Bookstore, an excellent
indie bookstore located stumbling distance from my house, has a
storefront display that they dress up for current books or literary
events. They’ve just dressed it up using Munroe’s latest book as the
theme, and here’s what it looks like:

I took these photos while out for a walk late Sunday evening.

That’s a little goblet beside the pentagram. An eeeeevil goblet!

“Thanks,
ladies and gentlemen, you’ve been a diabolical audience. I’m here all
week, try the roasted baby, and remember not to tip your server.”

The Tombstone Generator

This one’s been doing the rounds for a while, but if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the Tombstone Generator, which is similar to the Church Sign Generator from last fall.

My favourite one is the one that someone made for Biz Stone:

Karl Mohr, Tuesday night at the I.V. Lounge

Tomorrow night (Tuesday the 10th), I’m going to catch my friend and longtime accordion collaborator Karl Mohr at his show at the I.V. Lounge (326 Dundas Street West, across the street from the Art Gallery of Ontario) for some raunchy moody darkwave songs. Karl goes on at 11.
