“Feed the people. Stay Alive!”: The extended version of Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

do they know its christmas

My favourite oddball Christmas greeting is “Feed the people. Stay alive!”, delivered in the best working-class Scottish accent I can muster. It’s what Bruce Watson, guitarist from the band Big Country, says for his portion of the greetings from the Band Aid artists on the extended version of the 1984 charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas?

For your Christmas listening pleasure, here it is. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this! I love this version of the song. I have an MP3 at home with the extended version. I also love the Bruce Watson line and I too try to deliver it in my best Irish accent lol. My 18 year old daughter does too. The other one I do is the Paul Weller “This Paul Weller from the Style Council” in my best version of his accent as well. Anyway, thanks again for sharing..even though it took me 6 years to find this post!

Thank you for this excellent post. I’ve been wondering who delivered that bizarre-but-inspirational Christmas greeting. I used to know them all by heart but it’s been a while.
