Balut!

[via I Got Two Shoes] Hey, a Filipino delicacy plays a role in Fear Factor!

I don’t normally eat the stuff — I only do it to freak out non-Filipinos. But other dishes like bopis (shredded fried pig lung) and dinuguan (pig blood stew)? Tasty, and will earn the respect of anyone into Klingons!

"Hapland" Will Drive You Mad

Over at the IndieGameDev blog, I pointed readers to Hapland, a “Rube

Goldberg Machine” game in which you have to figure out how to make the

machine work in order to accomplish its task: light two torches. It sounds simple enough, but trust me: the game will drive you bonkers.

Screen capture: Hapland's initial screen.

Hapland, when you first start playing the game. Click the picture to play.

I have not yet given in and looked at the walkthrough, but I may soon…

If Hapland isn’t enough of a challenge for you, you might want to try Hapland 2, which is even more complex.

Arm and Hammer Have Much to Answer For

[via Robot Filter]

Baking soda does not absorb refrigerator smells! Searing meat does not

seal in its juices! Lobsters don’t scream in pain when boiled

(apparently, they don’t feel it)!

All these and more are explained on the Kitchen Myths site.

The 11 Types of Client You Should Fire

I’ve posted something to The Farm that links to an article describing the sorts of client with whom you should break off the relationship.

Although the article is written by a programmer and aimed at software

consultants, I think that it’s relevant for anyone in a business that

takes on client contracts — graphic designers, home improvement

contractors, wedding planners, lawyers and so on — which is why I

thought it bore repeating here.

Fish in a Barrel, But Still…

Late Night with Conan O’Brien sent out Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to deliver some well-earned abuse to a group way more disconnected from reality than the Star Wars fans: the Michael Jackson fans who held their vigil outside the courthouse. Hilarity ensued.

He’s Back in Action

It’s good to see my ol’ college buddy, business partner in so many harebrained ventures and best man at my upcoming wedding, George “Ol’ Pal Hotchner” Scriban blogging again, back in the game like “CJ” from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Welcome back, busta!

The Eubulides/Epimenides Paradox, 21st Century Style

Stacy posted the

photo below:

Photo: Bumper sticker on car that reads 'Nothing worth believing

  in firs on a bumper.

This isn’t the first time such a thing has been said. Charles “Peanuts” Schulz is quoted as saying “There’s a difference between a bumper sticker and a philosophy.”

(Psst! Here are definitions for the Epimenides

paradox and the Eubulides

paradox. You’ll find more about “strange loops” like these

paradoxes in Douglas Hofstadter’s Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden

Braid. Don’t say I never taught you

nuthin’.)
