Tomorrow is the first Saturday in May, which means that it’s Free Comic Book Day!
2007 will mark the 6th annual Free Comic Book Day. For those of you not familiar with it, here’s an excerpt from their FAQ:
1. What is “Free Comic Book Day?”
As the name implies, Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world are giving away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores.
2. When is Free Comic Book Day?
Free Comic Book Day will take place on May 5, 2007.
3. Are they really free?
Yep!
4. Is every comic book store in the world doing this?
If you’re asking about convenience stores with a spinner rack of comics in a corner somewhere, the answer is no. This event celebrates the independent comic book specialty stores, thousands of which exist in North America alone. Each one is unique in its community, with a style and personality all its own, and each one carries a full line of comics, graphic novels, and related products.
While we hope every one of these stores will take part, each store will determine on its own whether or not to participate.
5. Then how do I know where to go to get my free comics?
As May 5 approaches, www.FreeComicBookDay.com will launch a customized database that will show you participating stores in your area. Sign up for our e-mail newsletter to be alerted when the database is ready, or check back in early April.

There’s a Button for Everything Now

If you’re a regular at Kickass Karaoke, you probably know Diandra, pictured to the right in a pirate outfit.
What you may not know is that she was offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance at an interesting job working on a film — in Jerusalem. The job will take her away from our fair Accordion City for a year.
Such a big change deserves a big send-off, which is why we’re having a gathering for her tomorrow night on Queen Street West. We’re going to start off at Lot 16 Bar (1136 Queen Street West, a couple of blocks east of Dufferin), which is probably the most friendly and unpretentious bar on the Drake Strip. Cheap, too!
We’ll probably end up at the Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West, at Dufferin) for some karaoke. Yes, it’s not going to be a Carson karaoke night, but it will be karaoke nonetheless.
The fun starts at Lot 16 at 9:00 p.m., and Wendy, I and the accordion will be there.
“Aleupp”, whom I know by way of Miss Fipi Lele, says that he’ll be watching for these 10 things during tonight’s Republican Candidate Debate…
- Whether Duncan Hunter can out-anti-immigrant Tom Tancredo.
- If anyone brings up Giuliani’s cross-dressing stunts, or his 3 marriages, or his ties to questionable figures in NYC.
- How often Reagan’s salad is posthumously tossed.
- How many of the 10 guys proclaim to be “the real conservative in the race”.
- Whether John Cox will get a turn to speak.
- Whether anyone will care if he does.
- How often Sam Brownback brings up Jesus.
- Just HOW TRAITOROUS are those Democrats?
- If they actually let Schwarzenegger in.
- How funny Ron Paul actually is.
