Song of the Week: The Offical Song of Internet Discussions and Blog Comments, a.k.a. "Star Trek Fight Music"

Kirk and Spock fighting in the Vulcan 'kal-if-fee' ceremony.

The recent arguments over the Kathy Sierra situation as well as the battle between the “cowards” and “armchair Bruce Willises” over what they would have done had they been at Virginia Tech on that fateful day have led me to declare the classic and much-parodied Star Trek fight theme [1.8 MB MP3] as the official song of internet discussions and blog comments. Like the Vulcan ritual that the music underscored, most internet arguments are triggered by a response in the most primitive parts of our brains, look silly to outsiders and seem to be taken up by people who are slated to have sex once every seven years.

Live short and fester!

Kroyka! – I will loop this as I read this morning reader comments in the Globe and Mail this morning… I find it quite interesting that the venerable old G&M has turned itself into a cross between Fark and USNET circa 1989.

E. Grant says:
A couple of weeks ago I helped put together a scavenger hunt for the groom to do during the day of his stag party. The hunt culminated with him down in a ravine, while a buddy appeared in a giant afro wig on a ridge and played this music on his tenor sax.
That was the cue for about a dozen children to rise up from their hiding place and pelt the unsuspecting groom with 80-odd tomatoes.
They were roma tomatoes, so it wasn’t too messy.
