by Joey deVilla on April 12, 2006

Update, Wednesday April 12, 2006, 14:33 EDT: We’ve got a source where you can order these shirts! See the end of the article for details.

Woman in t-shirt that reads 'Hate' stannding beside mirror, where the T-shirt's reflected image reads 'Love'.

[vis Russereous] Here’s a T-shirt for those of you who are fans of Gödel, Escher, Bach, devotees of Scott Kim or have enough mileage to know that love and hate are often two sides of the same coin.

Update: Where You Can Get This Shirt

Thanks to Neatorama for the tip — the shirt is a creation of Rachel Plefger and you can order it online! The shirts are available in men’s and women’s sizes and in red-on-black or black-on-red.

Be Sure to Check Out Neatorama

Neatorama should be get more credit for the T-shirt story; they had posted about this two days ago!

2 Anonymous April 12, 2006 at 9:18 am

The funny thing is that to me, the model’s face in the mirror looks more friendly than the other one. Something about the mouth.

3 Anonymous April 12, 2006 at 10:03 am

Awesome. Any idea where we might be able to buy one?

4 Anonymous April 12, 2006 at 10:32 am

9 Anonymous April 12, 2006 at 11:31 am

10 Anonymous April 12, 2006 at 11:39 am

do the small breasts come with the shirt?

pretty neat- like good art, you can see it in many ways. aside from the previously mentioned idea that love/hate are same sides of one coin, if you think about it, its saying everyone gets hate except yourself, kind of like how the world currently works and why we’re all f*cked by war, racism, etc. (in general).on the other hand it could be a type of meditation, if you take it as reminding yourself to transform your hate to love. i guess it wouldn’t work if it was the other way around, you certainly wouldn’t want to look at yourself and see hate. either way, definitely interesting for a tshirt- makes you think.

So fucking american… SUPPORT THE ARTIST ZOMG?!

1. The ambigrams were in Angels and Demons

2. Dan Brown didn’t make them

3. Ambigrams are symmetrical and read the same when rotated (or rather, half of it reads the other half when rotated). This is mirrored, not rotated

this is a similar idea to some designs my friend does:

18 Anonymous April 15, 2006 at 9:08 pm

John Langdon made the ambigrams in The Da Vinci Code.

Someone may have already set you straight on this but, in case they have not:

Ambigram n., – a word or words that can be read in more than one way or from more than a single vantage point.

“Reflected” is included as a different vantage point, but don’t take my word for it:

Does anyone know how to translate from French to English so I CAN order the t-shirt?

Isn’t Men’s European medium equal to Men’s Small USA?

Anyone? anyone? anyone?

28 Anonymous March 23, 2007 at 4:47 pm

Hey amoeba. Imitation is the greatest form of flatery. Do you where any team jersey or colors of a sports team…poser!

29 Anonymous April 23, 2007 at 12:43 pm

I don’t know if wanting to buy the t-shirt is an american thing.

What do you want to do, assault them for what they said? and now since it was anonymous you are even more upset and call them a coward….THAT is very american.

I ordered this shirt from Tagville over 4 weeks ago and it still hasn’t arrived even though I was told it would only take 1-2 weeks. Now the customer service department wont reply to any of my e-mail requests and there isn’t a customer service number to contact them. Ahhhh!!!! RIP OFF!!
