While my family celebrates Christmas, I’d never heard of this “Elf of the Shelf” thing until a couple of years ago. I’m chalking it up as just another weird WASP thing, like that cut-up celery suspended in green jello dish. The critical theory folks are having a field day about the Elf softening us up for a surveillance state, but as the photo above shows, that’s not the worst of it.

“…It is not logical.”

It says “I’m so good at what I do that I don’t have to worry about what you think of my Cookie Monster trousers.” Besides, who doesn’t like Cookie Monster?
