It snowed in Accordion City over the weekend, which while inconvenient for drivers, makes the city look terribly pretty. Here are a couple of shots I took yesterday.
The first one is of Sullivan Street, looking east. You may not know it, but this quiet little street is located in a residential neighbourhood tucked between several noisy areas: Chinatown to the north and west, the formerly-boho-now-boutiquey Queen Street West neighbourhood and the club and theatre districts to the south, and the financial district to the east.
Here’s a shot of the house, Big Trouble in Little China. Paul, Sam and I occupy the basement and first floor; the upstairs floors are a loft unit occupied by our neighbour Richard.
The facade is historic (there’s even a historical society plaque), but the house interior is from the future!

The next person whom I must congratulate is my housemate Paul Baranowski, who received his black belt in taekwondo last night. Now he’s really earned the nickname we’ve given him, the Drunken Master.
Congrats, Paul! If I ever have to assemble a team of misfit heroes to save the world, I’m going to pick you as the martial arts expert with the tragic hippie past.
I’ll post the pictures plus some pretty amazing video of “Triple B” in action later tonight.

Here’s a photo of me and Sam at the drinking party that followed the black belt ceremony (where Paul got his black belt last night) at World Taekwondo in Kensington Market. I’m always up for having my picture taken, but Sam’s not so sure…
My friend Tara Hunt runs her own marketing firm, Rogue Strategies, by day and her disco revival party, Cream Soda, by night. It seems to have gone over well; her Cream Soda nights are always packed, and now the National Post has a story on her.

Welcome to the world, Henry!
Yesterday, my friends George (whom I’ve known for sixteen years) and Alicia (to whom I was introduced eleven years ago) became a family of three with the addition of a 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy named Henry Gherardi Scriban. Both Leesh and Hank (Can I call him that, George? “Hank Scriban” got a ring to it) are doing fine and taking it easy at resting at NYU Medical Center.
Congrats, George and Leesh, and welcome to the world, Henry!
