Do not take the easternmost route, the one that leads through DC and Eastern Virginia. Your sanity, even your life, may depend on it. I cannot believe there is any other highway on earth with more traffic congestion, more of the day, than the stretch from about Alexandria till past Richmond.
Why would you knowing drive through five contruction zones?
Also the west (I75) route is much better in bad weather.
