Philippine Independence Day Celebrations at Nathan Phillips Square This Weekend

This weekend at Nathan Phillips Square, the Filipino Centre Toronto will be hosting Pistahan sa Toronto, a celebration of Filipino culture, timed to coincide closely with Philippine Independence Day. There will be a large stage featuring all sorts of Philippine cultural performances as well as the “Philippine Idol” singing contest. In addition, there will be all sorts of vendors selling some really tasty Filipino food!

  • Re: Philipine Idol - Filipinos singing in public for contest glory? This must be a first.

As God as my witness, if a Filipino can find a microphone, they'll plug it in & sing. Independence Day Celebrations, birthday parties, funerals and anything in between. It's an addiction. It's in the blood. Not to sing in public would be a cultural faux pas.

There is an old saying: Ang lalaking at saka babaing na umdaawit ay kaibigan ko.

If only, it was true in my heart.
