Right now, I'd settle for being able to punch executables and device drivers... apparently a proper reboot renders MythTV installations (or at least mine) completely useless.
MythTV is a reputedly cranky little beast. You might want to drop my housemate Paul a line and see if he's had any success with it.
A former co-worker of mine here at Tucows, Jason Slaughter (he hasn't set up a new web page yet), is now one of the mulitmedia guys over at ATI. He favours Freevo over MythTV.

Problem is, Freevo is a single-node system, and I'm going for a networked PVR system with, eventually, 4 tuners, 2 digital cable boxes, and 3-4 frontends plus PCs, in a 6-person house.
I'm really that crazy.
