Welcome, Toronto Star Readers!

Today’s edition of the Toronto Star has an article in the I.D. section titled Flogging Blogging. There’s a sidebar that didn’t make it into the online edition that has this snippet:

http://accordionguy.blogware.com
Joey, the country’s foremost Filipino-Canadian blogger. His 26/05/2004 response to an anti-immigrant www.enterstageright.com article proves that My Canada Includes Accordian [sic] Guy.

My thanks to the Star and author Showey Yazdanian!

If you’ve come here for the fisrt time, there are two and a half years’ worth of entries. You’ll find some of the “best of” entries catalogued here. Feel free to look around!

P.S. It’s spelled “accordiOn”.

P.P.S. My apologies for the use of the <blink> tag, I believe it is warranted.

  • So, you're the "foremost Filipino-Canadian blogger", eh? I bet the competition for that title must be pretty fierce.

  • Truth be told, there are Filipino-Canadian bloggers bigger than I:

    • Rannie "Photojunkie" Turingan: founder of the GTABloggers, one of the best-known photobloggers out there, and winner of a Bloggie award at 2003 SXSW
    • Caterina Fake, whose blog is in the top 10 if you count incoming links using the various blogging tools
    • Roland Tanglao, who has a popular tech blog (which strangely isn;t up at the moment).

Where I really shine in under the category "accordion players who've had the most live airtime at MuchMusic". After Weird Al and They Might Be Giants' John Linnell, there's me.

  • There must be something about that Pacific-Canadian convergence — that’s a distinguished roster of colleagues! Of course, I’d still count you as first among them. . . .

  • I bet you come first in the "accordion players who've had the most live airtime at MuchMusic who have been hit by cars" category.

  • Are you kidding? Weird Al's probably bounced off the grill of a pickup truck at least twice. The biggest thing I've even been hit with is a Buick, tops.

  • I think it would be fierce except for the fact that Filipino's (other than Moros of course) tend to proud of the fact that we're known for getting along with folks in general.
So when you run into a Filipino-Canadian you're usually going to get a text book case of constructive interference.
Fun blog. Mabuhay from a West Coast Coconut.

  • I can't believe I misspelled "accordion"! I actually picked up on it late on Monday, but I figured the editors would catch it. Sorry about that...
Great blog, by the way. :)

  • And Linnell used to be a bike courier. You just know he's tasted tarmac a couple of times...
