The London Olympic committee asked a MOVIE maker to create the opening cermonies..the outcome comes as no surprise. Very theatrical and lots of movie references. And the first two slides…England the agricultural nation transitioning to England the Industrial power IS part of their history..a history lived through by none other than J R R Tolkien himself who longed for the pre industrial revolution days and created his favourite character ‘the hobbits’ who very much lived his ideal life.
“..our hearts truly lie is in peace and quiet and good, tilled earth. For all hobbits share a love for things that grow. And, yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint. But today of all days, it is brought home to me: It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.” – Bilbo Baggins, The Followship of the Ring.
