Maybe I'm just a cynic but I don't see the utility of this test. We have known for almost 30 years that the Iranian theocracy was a horribly oppressive and corrupt edifice. It's not as if the ugly truth is just coming to light now. We also know from several thousand years of recorded human history that people in general do not like oppressive and corrupt rulers. Persian expats get together and protest the rule of the mullahs right here in Toronto pretty well every year; I've been to a few. There is never media coverage.

All those Iranian tweets aren't telling us anything we haven't already known for ages.

There's no question that a bunch of guys armed with Twitter don't stand any real chance against guys armed with AKs, The only hope the tweeters have is that someone else is going to see the slaughter and try to do something about it.

The real test is for us--whether we we can look at the torrent of human misery and act in a tangible, credible way, or take the easy route and simply change the channel or click another bookmark.
