If I recall correctly the <i>The Equalizer</i> also had a much younger sidekick. Now that I think about it the <i>Buffy the Vampire Slayer</i> model is probably the best of both worlds. A young, attractive female sidekick who would go off and kick ass while McCain pores through dusty old tomes and figures out how to beat the supernatural bad guys.
