…when’s the last time you saw the word “chortle” in a newspaper headline (see the previous entry)? Or heard it in a conversation?
Back in high school, after reading Space-Time and Beyond for the umpteenth time and drinking one too many zombies with my friend Henry, we came up with a theory:
In the infinite set of universes, there had to exist a particular universe in which the events in our lives were being watched as a TV show.
We then made a solemn vow to live the kind of life that got high ratings.
This is the continuation of that story.

It’s an unusual word to see in the news, all right…
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it used outside of a book, and that certainly made me chortle.
My father and I use it in conversation with one another all the time.
… But I don’t usually use it in conversations with others
